DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- Think about the people you look up to. What does that tell you about which characteristics you prize in someone?
- Do you ever go to God for help with a situation, but want him to leave your deeper problems (and idols) alone?
- How have you experienced God asking for far more of you than you’d expected, but at the same time giving you far more than you’d asked for?
- “Our ultimate fear is to be dependent.” Is this true of you? What would your prayer life suggest is the answer to that question? If you do fear dependence, how does this affect your relationship with God?
- What “self-help strategies” might God need to “cut off” from you? Will you actually ask him to show you an accurate answer, and then to do the cutting work?
- How is Jesus a better Savior than the things that rival him in your life or society? How will this motivate you to worship and live for him alone?
